Chapter 14
Grief's Electric Storm
Marylu is consumed by a tidal wave of grief and rage. Daisy's sacrifice ignites a destructive fury within her, her electrical powers surging uncontrollably, fueled by pain.
The world was muted, a hazy watercolor where the vibrant greens of the forest had bled into a dull, uniform grey. It hitched in my chest, a ragged, painful thing, each inhale a fresh stab of agony. Daisy. Her name was a phantom limb, an ache where something vital used to be. They said she was gone. Gone. The word itself was a mockery, a flimsy curtain draped over an abyss.
My hands, usually crackling with the vibrant blue of my power, felt cold and dead. Useless. Just the sickening thud of her falling, the silencing of her laughter, the extinguishing of her light.
A tremor ran through me, not of fear, but of something far more primal. Anger. A white-hot, all-consuming fury that clawed at my throat. It was unfair. So incredibly, monstrously unfair. Daisy, with her gentle hands and her heart as vast as the sky, deserved a thousand lifetimes of sunrises and blooming flowers. Not this. Not *this*.
