The air in the Grand Hall of the Heroes’ Citadel hummed with a nervous energy, a stark contrast to the rustle of leaves and the scent of damp earth that usually clung to me. Sunlight, filtered through impossibly high stained-glass windows depicting ancient battles, cast kaleidoscope patterns on the polished stone floor. Beside me, Daisy, ever the picture of serene grace, looked like a wildflower transplanted into a grand, stone garden. Her presence always grounded me, a gentle reminder of the quiet strength that existed beyond the crackling storm within me.
We stood before him, the Elder Hero, a man whose name was whispered with reverence throughout the allied forces. He wasn’t clad in shining armor or flamboyant capes like some of the younger, eager heroes. His attire was simple, practical, and worn with the quiet dignity of someone who had seen too much and endured even more. His face was a roadmap of battles fought and wisdom gained, etched with lines that spoke of sleepless nights and heavy burdens. His eyes, the color of a stormy sea, held a depth that seemed to absorb the very light around us, yet they softened when they landed on Daisy.
“Marylu,” his voice was a low rumble, like distant thunder, “Daisy.” He acknowledged us with a nod, his gaze lingering on me for a moment longer. “You have shown great promise. Your powers, raw and untamed, have already turned the tide in skirmishes. The people speak of the lightning girl and the blossom weaver.”
