The air grew heavy with each step, a tangible blanket of sorrow pressing down on my shoulders. Opeyemi, a constant pulse of light beside me, seemed to dim slightly, its usual vibrant hum reduced to a faint whisper. We were approaching the heart of it all, the place where the world’s laughter had been silenced, where every ticking clock had been choked into stillness. It felt like walking into a dream that had turned sour, the sweet melody curdled into a mournful dirge.

"This is it, Faruq," Opeyemi’s voice, usually a cascade of chimes, now sounded like distant wind through bare branches. "The epicenter. Where the Man of God… where the despair festers."

I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry. The landscape around us had transformed. The vibrant colours of the frozen world had leached away, replaced by shades of grey and bruised purple. Trees stood like skeletal fingers clawing at a perpetually twilight sky. Statues of frozen people, caught mid-stride, mid-conversation, mid-breath, seemed to gaze at me with hollow eyes. It was a world painted in sadness, and I could feel its chill seeping into my bones.
