The world exhaled. It wasn't a sound I heard, not at first, but a feeling, a tremor that rippled through the stillness and vibrated deep in my bones. The shimmering light, Opeyemi, pulsed beside me, its glow intensifying, as if mirroring the world’s own awakening. I looked around, my heart thudding a frantic rhythm against my ribs. The frozen figures, my family, my friends, the bustling crowds of the town square – they were stirring.

A woman, mid-stride, blinked, her hand slowly lowering from a gesture I couldn't quite recall. A child, frozen with a delighted gasp, wobbled on unsteady legs before finding their balance. The birds, silent for so long, burst into a symphony of song, their tiny throats pouring out notes of pure, unadulterated joy. The air, once heavy and stagnant, now thrummed with life, with movement, with the sweet, heady scent of everything returning.

My mom. She was standing by the fruit stand, her eyes wide, a half-smile on her lips as she reached for an apple. Then her gaze drifted, and her eyes landed on me. The smile faltered, replaced by an expression of utter disbelief, then a wave of overwhelming relief that made her knees buckle slightly. She mouthed my name, a silent, desperate plea.
