A Hero's Welcome

The world exhaled. It wasn't a sound I heard, not at first, but a feeling, a tremor that rippled through the stillness and vibrated deep in my bones. A woman, mid-stride, blinked, her hand slowly lowering from a gesture I couldn't quite recall. A child, frozen with a delighted gasp, wobbled on unsteady legs before finding their balance. The birds, silent for so long, burst into a symphony of song, their tiny throats pouring out notes of pure, unadulterated joy.
