The air thrummed with a different kind of silence today, not the hushed reverence of the Grand Hotel, but a vibrant, expectant hush that pulsed from the village below. From my perch on the hotel’s highest balcony, the colorful banners strung between rooftops looked like celebratory ribbons unfurling against the sapphire sky. The scent of roasting nuts and sweet pastries, carried on the breeze, tickled my nostrils, a stark contrast to the dusty, forgotten perfume of the hotel’s grand ballroom. Pip, a blur of emerald and gold beside me, bounced on the balls of their tiny feet, their eyes, bright as polished amber, fixed on the unfolding scene.

"They're ready, Mysterio! The music is tuning, the elders are gathering by the Great Oak. Are you ready?" Pip’s voice, usually a playful lilt, held a tremor of anticipation, mirroring the nervous flutter in my own chest.

Ready? The word felt like a foreign tongue. For weeks, the hotel had been my sanctuary, its silent halls a comforting embrace. I had traced the faded patterns on the carpets, imagined the laughter that once echoed in the ballroom, and found a strange kinship with the peeling paint and forgotten elegance. It was a peace I had craved, a quiet balm for wounds I thought would never heal. Then Pip, a whirlwind of mischief and moonlight, had found me, and with their persistent coaxing, had begun to unravel the carefully constructed walls around my heart.
