The air in the Grand Hotel, once thick with the scent of dust and forgotten perfumes, now carried a new fragrance—the subtle, hopeful aroma of my own tentative peace. Pip, a shimmering blur of emerald and laughter, flitted around me, a persistent echo of the outside world I was so desperate to leave behind. “Come on, Mysterio!” Pip chirped, their voice like tiny bells tinkling in the cavernous ballroom. “Just one step. One simple, joyful step.”
