Embracing the Emerald
Instead of reverting the van, they decide to embrace its quirky new look! The narrator and Barnaby declare the green van is fantastic and plan a summer of hilarious adventures, learning that sometimes, accidents lead to the most wonderful, funny outcomes.
"Purple?" I squeaked, staring at the van that was, just moments ago, a perfectly respectable, albeit slightly grubby, shade of green. Now, it was a vibrant, shocking, almost offensively cheerful shade of purple. Barnaby, perched on the passenger seat, let out a dramatic gasp that made his whiskers twitch.
"Oh, for goodness sake!" he huffed, his little badger nose crinkling with dismay. "First green, now purple? This gnome is a menace to automotive aesthetics!"
The gnome, who had been hovering nervously by the open driver's side door, wrung his tiny, dirt-stained hands. "It's the sparkle dust," he mumbled, his voice barely a whisper. "It's... temperamental. Very temperamental. Sometimes it picks colours it likes. And sometimes," he winced, "it picks all the colours."
