The last fiery sliver of the sun, a molten coin pressed against the bruised velvet of the horizon, hesitated. It clung there, as if loath to surrender its reign, and for a breathless moment, the world held its collective breath. Paris, Alex, and Madelyn stood on the highest dune, their faces painted in the impossible hues of an eternal twilight. The air, usually cooling and crisp as evening descended, still held the day's warmth, a gentle caress against their skin.
