A collective sigh rippled through the hidden grove, a sound like wind chimes made of dew drops. It was a sound of understanding, of acceptance. The nature spirits, their forms shimmering like heat haze over a summer meadow, had listened. They had seen the weariness in Paris’s eyes, the longing for the quiet hush of twilight that even Alex, in his boundless enthusiasm, had begun to betray. They had felt the gentle wisdom in Madelyn’s words, the quiet plea for balance.

“You are right, little humans,” whispered a spirit whose voice sounded like rustling leaves. “We were so caught in the joy of endless light, we forgot the beauty of its leaving.”

Another, whose form was like a dancing firefly, buzzed softly. “The ending, too, has its own magic. A promise of return.”
