The air in the abandoned warehouse hummed with an unfamiliar energy, a discordant symphony of whirring servers and the low thrum of arcane wards. Jennifer stood by a stark, metal table, her arms crossed, her gaze sweeping over the room with barely concealed impatience. Tara, a hulking silhouette of midnight fur beside her, let out a soft rumble of agreement. This was not Jennifer’s usual hunting ground. The stench of ozone and stale coffee replaced the familiar tang of blood and decay.
“Are you certain this is the place, Mark?” Her voice was a low rasp, each word clipped and precise. She didn't like being led, especially not to a place that felt so… mundane.
Mark West, a man whose stoic demeanor was as much a part of him as his Homeland Security badge, nodded curtly. “Kelly said this is her sanctuary. Where she does her best work. And her best work is what we need.” He gestured to a cluster of blinking lights and tangled wires that dominated one corner of the vast space. “She’s in there.”
