Chapter 18
Liam's Allegiance
Witnessing the courage and sacrifice, Liam chooses his side. He and his brothers join the fray, their demonic strength a surprising asset against the darkness.
The air in the cavern thrummed with a desperate energy, a symphony of fear and defiance. Crimson light pulsed from the wounded earth, painting the jagged rock faces in shades of arterial red. I watched, heart a tight knot in my chest, as Lyra moved through the chaos, her silvery aura a beacon against the encroaching gloom. Her bravery was a stark, beautiful thing, a flame in the encroaching night. Beside her, Kael fought with a controlled fury, his movements a fluid dance of death, his eyes, even in the heart of battle, finding hers.
Across the expanse, Liam, his brothers flanking him, was a whirlwind of obsidian power. I’d underestimated him, dismissed him as just another brute. But watching him now, the raw, untamed energy he wielded, the protective circle he formed around his kin… it was something else entirely. His usual sneer was replaced by a grim determination, a mask of resolve that spoke volumes. He was fighting for something, not just survival.
Then, it happened. A tendril of the Shadow Entity, thick and viscous as tar, slithered towards Liam’s youngest brother, a whisper of despair clinging to it. The boy, barely more than a child in demon years, faltered, his eyes wide with a terror that threatened to consume him. Without a second thought, Liam threw himself forward, a guttural roar tearing from his throat. He met the tendril head-on, not with a weapon, but with his own body, his demonic essence flaring, a shield of pure, defiant will. The Shadow’s touch recoiled, hissing like a scalded serpent, but Liam staggered, a visible crack appearing in his aura, a dark stain spreading across his chest.
