Guided by an inner pull and the King's inquiry, Kael leads the King to the ancient oak. With trembling hands, he digs up the Crown of Whispers, its ethereal glow returning.
The air in the King’s court hummed with an expectant silence, a stark contrast to the usual boisterous chatter of the village. Kael, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs, stood before King Theron, the weight of the King’s gaze feeling heavier than any burden he had ever carried. He was no longer the terrified boy who had fled his burning home, nor the quiet young man who had sought solace in anonymity. The summons, the questions about a lost artifact, had stirred something deep within him, a forgotten echo of the urgency that had compelled him to flee all those years ago.
“You remember the place, young Kael?” King Theron’s voice was a low rumble, laced with an authority that demanded an answer, yet held a strange undercurrent of something akin to hope. “The ancient oak, where you sought refuge?”
Kael swallowed, his throat suddenly dry. He nodded, the movement stiff. He remembered. Every gnarled root, every whispering leaf, every secret held within its shade. He remembered the desperate act of burial, the desperate prayer that it would remain hidden, safe from prying eyes. But now, the King himself sought it.
