The whispers were never truly silent for Kael, not since the night he’d first felt their ethereal hum against his skin, a chilling echo of his mother’s final moments. They nudged him, not with the gentle urgings of the village’s mundane woes, but with a persistent, insistent tug towards a truth he’d long buried. His parents. Their murder. The shadows that had consumed his childhood were beginning to coalesce, no longer formless dread, but a tangible threat that the Crown of Whispers insisted he face.
He sat beneath the ancient oak, the rough bark a familiar comfort against his back. The crown, cool and heavy on his brow, pulsed with a soft, internal light, its whispers weaving through the rustling leaves above. He’d learned to decipher their patterns, to distinguish the murmur of a worried farmer from the frantic plea of a lost child. But these new whispers, these were different.
