The air in the hidden sanctuary hummed with an energy that was both ancient and alive, a palpable thrumming against Kael’s skin. It was a place whispered about in hushed tones, a myth even within the hallowed halls of Elation Academy, and now, here they were. Lyra, Elian, and Kael stood before an archway carved from obsidian that seemed to absorb the very light around it. Beyond, a path wound into a darkness that felt less like an absence of light and more like a presence of something profound.

“So,” Elian said, his usual jovial tone tinged with a tremor of awe, “this is it. The ‘Trials of the Ancients.’ Sounds like a rather dramatic name for a walk in the park, wouldn’t you say?” He nudged Kael, but his eyes were wide, scanning the imposing entrance.

Lyra, ever the pragmatist, ran a gloved hand over the smooth, cool obsidian. “This is no park, Elian. The magic here… it’s layered, like centuries of forgotten spells woven together. This place is meant to keep people out, or to test them thoroughly before they’re allowed in.” Her gaze swept over the intricate carvings that adorned the arch, symbols Kael vaguely recognized from his dreams, symbols that now pulsed with a faint, inner luminescence.
