I rested my head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart, a counterpoint to the frantic, joyful drumming of my own. Here, in the soft glow of the antique lamps, was our world, a nascent universe born from whispered confessions and shared vulnerability.

I traced the line of his jaw with my fingertip, a gesture of both tenderness and disbelief. How had we arrived at this point? It felt like a dream, a beautiful, fragile dream I was terrified of waking from.
