But tonight, as Leo’s hand found mine, the usual enchantment bloomed into something warmer, more vibrant. It was as if the very dust motes dancing in the single lamp’s glow had coalesced into tiny, shimmering hearts, celebrating the fragile, yet undeniable, truth that had finally settled between us. We stood there, bathed in the amber light, the silence between us no longer a chasm of unspoken fears, but a comfortable space filled with the quiet hum of understanding.
Leo’s thumb traced slow, comforting circles on the back of my hand. “I… I never thought I’d be able to say that again,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through my palm and settled deep within my chest. “To anyone.”
