The air in Logan Canyon had a peculiar stillness, a silence that felt less like peace and more like a held breath. Ranger Katja Becker found herself listening to it with an intensity that bordered on obsession. The official search for the fourteen missing visitors had officially wound down, the official word being that they had likely gotten lost, succumbed to the elements, and the canyon, with its vast, unforgiving beauty, had claimed them. Maps, hiking guides, lists of local flora and fauna – all meticulously detailed, innocently inviting. She picked one up, a glossy pamphlet showcasing the “Majestic Peaks Trail.” The photos were idyllic: smiling hikers, vibrant wildflowers, panoramic vistas. It felt like a cruel joke now, a carefully crafted illusion designed to lure the unsuspecting.
