Robin’s voice, when she finally spoke, was a silken thread woven through the rustling leaves, ancient and resonant with the very earth. Katja, still reeling from the unsettling clarity of the dream, found herself drawn deeper into the hushed clearing, the air thick with the scent of pine and something else—something wild and untamed. The figure of Robin, bathed in the dappled moonlight filtering through the canopy, seemed to shimmer, less a woman and more a manifestation of the canyon itself.

"You seek answers, Ranger," Robin stated, her eyes, the color of moss after a spring rain, fixed on Katja. There was no accusation in her tone, only a profound, unsettling knowledge. "You see the missing, and you feel the void they left. But you do not see the balance they disrupted."

Katja’s pragmatic mind, so accustomed to the clear-cut logic of evidence and procedure, struggled to grasp the ethereal pronouncements. "Balance? What balance? Fourteen people are gone, Elder Robin. They vanished. That’s not balance, that’s a catastrophe."
