Chapter 7
Reign of Terror
Amy examines Vlad's methods of control and the fear he instilled. The castle becomes a silent witness to his ruthlessness, its stones absorbing the echoes of his decrees.
The stones of Poenari, they don't just sit there, inert and silent. No, they breathe. They absorb. And in this chapter, they absorbed the chilling essence of a man whose name still makes the bravest shiver: Vlad the Impaler. It wasn't just about battles fought on distant fields, or treaties signed with a flourish of ink. It was about the chilling, calculated terror that seeped from this very place, like a noxious miasma.
I walked the ramparts, the wind whipping my hair, but it felt like more than just wind. It was a sigh, a lament, a breath held too long. This was his seat, his throne carved from rock and fear. How did he do it, this Dracula of history, this Vlad III? How did one man, with his grim pronouncements and his even grimmer methods, manage to etch such a profound terror into the very fabric of this land, and by extension, into these ancient walls?
The local histories, the fragmented chronicles, they spoke of his decrees, delivered with the swiftness of a falling axe. Justice, he called it. Order, he proclaimed. But the reality, as I was beginning to piece together from the whispers that clung to the air, was far more brutal. Imagine standing here, on this very spot, as his voice, sharp as a shard of obsidian, cut through the silence. Imagine the faces of those who stood before him, their eyes wide with a primal, unreasoning dread.
