The scent of roasted beans and the hiss of the espresso machine had become Elara’s sanctuary. Liam’s coffee shop, “The Daily Grind,” was more than just a place for caffeine; it was a warm embrace, a familiar hum against the sharp edges of her anxieties. She found herself drawn there with an almost magnetic pull, especially on Tuesdays. Tuesdays were when he usually served her, his smile a slow unfurling, his eyes – the colour of strong coffee just before the cream swirls in – holding a depth that made her breath catch.

Today, however, a subtle unease had settled over her, a shadow cast by a recent conversation. Chloe, ever the pragmatist, had voiced a concern that had lodged itself stubbornly in Elara’s mind. "He's almost *too* perfect, Elara. The way he remembers your order, the little notes he sometimes leaves on the cup… it feels a bit manufactured, doesn't it?"

Elara had brushed it off then, attributing Chloe's skepticism to her friend’s inherent cynicism about romance. But now, as Liam placed her usual latte before her, a tiny, almost imperceptible tremor ran through her hand. He’d written a small heart beside her name on the cup, a gesture he’d started a few weeks ago, which had initially sent a flutter of delight through her. Today, it felt… different. A little too knowing?
