Chapter 7
Shadows and Steel
Morwenna unleashes her defenses. Twisted vines and shadowy beasts patrol the woods, seeking to crush Elara's mechanical wonders and silence their nascent songs.
The forest floor, usually a tapestry of dappled sunlight and fallen leaves, had become a treacherous maze. Twisted vines, thick as a man's arm and pulsing with a malevolent, inky hue, snaked across the path, their thorny tendrils twitching with an unnatural sentience. Elara, her satchel heavy with her clockwork companions, moved with a practiced stealth born of necessity. The air itself felt thick, a cloying blanket woven from the enchantress’s power, pressing down on her, a constant reminder of the danger that lurked just beyond the veil of sight.

She knows we’re here.”
Morwenna’s anger had not been a sudden storm, but a slow, creeping dread that had settled over the woods like a shroud. Elara had felt it the moment she’d dared to test the robin’s song, a tremor in the very earth that spoke of a furious, ancient power awakening. Now, that power manifested in the very trees themselves, their branches contorting into grasping claws, their roots erupting from the soil like grasping hands.
