Agent Thorne’s words, sharp and cold as shards of ice, echoed in the confined space of her lab. “The Chronos Weaver. Hand it over, Vance.” His eyes, like chips of polished obsidian, were fixed on her, unblinking. Beside him, two hulking figures, their faces obscured by the shadows of their tactical gear, stood ready.

Elara’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the symphony of her activated defenses. The Chronos Weaver, humming softly in its containment unit, pulsed with a light that seemed to absorb and refract the very chaos erupting around her. She could feel its awareness, a subtle tremor in the temporal fabric, as if it too sensed the imminent danger.

“You don’t understand what you’re asking for,” Elara managed, her voice surprisingly steady despite the tremor in her hands. She clutched the datapad, its screen displaying a swirling vortex of temporal energy – the Weaver’s core.
