Twisted roots, slick with perpetual dew, clawed at my boots, and the dense canopy overhead allowed only fractured shafts of sunlight to pierce the gloom. Kaelen, ever the vigilant guardian, moved with a practiced ease that belied the treacherous terrain, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of Silas Thorne or his hounds. “Are you sure this is it, Elara?” Kaelen’s voice, a low rumble, cut through the rustling leaves. He gestured with his chin towards a wall of moss-covered stone, seemingly impenetrable.
