The air in the hidden chamber thrummed with an ancient energy, a palpable weight that settled upon Elara’s shoulders. Master Valerius, his face a roadmap of centuries etched into weathered parchment, stood before her, his gaze sharp and unwavering. The flickering torchlight cast dancing shadows on the stone walls, illuminating murals that depicted scenes of a kingdom bathed in prosperity, then fractured by shadows, and finally, a solitary figure ascending into a stylized celestial array.
“You seek to understand the ‘lost’ King Theron,” Valerius’s voice, a low rumble like stones grinding together, echoed in the silence. “But the kingdom has been fed a lie. King Theron was not lost; he was hidden. And he hid himself.”
Elara’s breath hitched. The map, the whispers of her village elders, the very reason she’d embarked on this perilous quest – it all hinged on this revelation. “Hid himself? But why?”
