Chapter 18

The hum of fluorescent lights in the precinct bullpen was usually a comforting sound to Marcy, a lullaby of diligence. Tonight, it felt like a persistent, irritating buzz, mirroring the restless energy thrumming beneath her skin. She’d spent the last three hours poring over grainy surveillance footage, a kaleidoscope of blurry figures and shadowed alleys, searching for the phantom who had orchestrated the seemingly disparate string of petty thefts.
