Mia, meanwhile, meticulously pores over museum security footage and architectural plans, her sharp eyes catching a subtle anomaly: a brief flicker in the power grid coinciding with the artifact's disappearance. Her past experiences hint at a deeper understanding of security systems than she lets on.
The hum of the ancient fluorescent lights in their cramped office did little to soothe Mia’s frayed nerves. Outside, the city buzzed with its usual cacophony, a stark contrast to the quiet intensity radiating from Mia as she hunched over a colossal blueprint spread across their equally colossal, coffee-stained desk. Marcus, bless his optimistic soul, was currently attempting to balance a tower of empty donut boxes on his head, a feat he’d been attempting for the better part of an hour with unwavering, if misplaced, focus.
“You know,” Mia murmured, not looking up from the intricate lines and dimensions of the museum’s floor plan, her voice a low rumble of concentration, “the human brain is capable of processing an astonishing amount of information when it’s not preoccupied with gravity-defying pastry arrangements.”
Marcus, startled, wobbled precariously. The donut tower swayed, then, with a dramatic sigh of cardboard, cascaded onto the floor. He blinked, a faint dusting of powdered sugar clinging to his eyelashes. “Oh. Right. Just trying to lighten the mood, Mia. This whole ‘missing priceless alien doodad’ thing is a bit… heavy.”
