Elara’s warning, a hushed urgency in her voice, echoed in my mind: "They are closer than you think, Kaelen. Be ready." Ready for what? I clutched the charm, its familiar warmth a scant comfort against the encroaching cold. It pulsed beneath my fingertips, a silent heartbeat, a promise of power I was only just beginning to comprehend, and frankly, one that terrified me.

We had been reckless, I knew that now. Following the thread of that cryptic map, tracing the faint whispers of the First Spell, had led us straight into a trap. The Obsidian Hand, the very organization Elara had warned me about, had found us. Their presence was a palpable weight in the air, a suffocating darkness that seemed to drain the very light from the world.

"They’re here," Elara said, her voice barely a whisper, though it carried the weight of a thunderclap. Her eyes, usually filled with a gentle wisdom, were now sharp, scanning the shadows that danced at the edges of our vision. Her hand rested on the hilt of a slender silver dagger, its surface etched with runes that seemed to glow faintly in the dim light.
