The dust had settled, not just on the battlefield where Mike’s reign of terror had crumbled, but within me. The roar of the First Spell’s echo, a tempest that had threatened to tear me apart, had finally subsided, leaving behind a profound, unsettling quietude. The Obsidian Hand, once a suffocating shadow, was now a scattered collection of broken tendrils, their leader vanquished. Yet, victory tasted like ash on my tongue.

I stood on the precipice of what was supposed to be a new beginning, but the horizon offered no comfort, only a vast, unwritten expanse. The First Spell’s power, a tempest I had barely managed to contain within my own being, was no longer a wild, untamed force. It was a part of me, a constant, thrumming vibration beneath my skin, a whisper in the marrow of my bones. It was a terrifying intimacy, like sharing my very soul with a slumbering god.

Elara found me by the shattered remnants of what had once been a grand observatory, its dome a gaping maw open to the bruised dawn sky. She didn’t speak, her weary eyes, usually alight with the wisdom of ages, now held a deep, melancholic understanding. She simply sat beside me on a fallen pillar, the cool stone a stark contrast to the heat that still seemed to emanate from my core.
