Alex starts to question the map's purpose. Is it truly about finding someone else, or is it guiding Alex towards something within themselves? Jamie observes Alex's internal journey with growing curiosity.

Alex traced the faded ink of the map, the parchment brittle beneath their fingertips. The latest clue, a swirling, stylized depiction of a weeping willow, had led them to a forgotten corner of the city park, a place Alex had only ever seen on a historical survey of urban green spaces. It was supposed to signify ‘a place of sorrowful beauty,’ according to the cryptic scribbles on the map’s margin. And there it was, a magnificent, ancient willow, its branches drooping like a mournful dancer’s veil, its roots gnarled and exposed like arthritic fingers clutching the earth.

“Sorrowful beauty,” Alex muttered, the words tasting like dust and disappointment. “More like ‘sad, droopy tree.’ This map is really pushing the poetic license, isn’t it?”

A dry cough from behind them made Alex jump, nearly dropping the precious artifact. Jamie stood a few feet away, leaning against a park bench, a half-empty coffee cup in hand. They had a way of appearing, out of nowhere, like a particularly persistent cartographic anomaly.
