Erratic Encounters and Espresso

Another clue, another strange location. Jamie is there again, this time offering unexpected help. Alex's annoyance slowly morphs into a grudging appreciation for their persistent, charming companion.

The ink on the map, Alex suspected, was less ink and more a whisper of forgotten dreams. It had led them from the musty embrace of Ms. Gable’s bookstore to a place that, according to the faded inscription and Alex’s own considerable knowledge of urban planning, was a defunct public fountain in the middle of a particularly windswept roundabout. Not exactly the romantic rendezvous Alex had envisioned. It was, in fact, quite breezy, and the only thing flowing was a rather alarming amount of grit.

Alex, ever the optimist in the face of geographical absurdity, had donned their most sensible walking shoes and a jacket that, while stylish, offered questionable protection against the elements. They’d arrived, map clutched like a sacred scroll, only to find… well, a roundabout. And a fountain that looked as though it had been designed by someone who fundamentally misunderstood the concept of water.

“This is it?” Alex muttered, squinting at the map, then at the desolate patch of concrete. “A glorified puddle dispenser in the middle of nowhere?” They traced the lines on the map with a gloved finger. “The inscription said ‘Where aspirations flow, and lovers go.’ I’m assuming ‘aspirations’ is a euphemism for ‘rainwater’ and ‘lovers’ is a typo for ‘pigeons’.”
