The dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight that dared to pierce the gloom of the attic, each one a tiny, swirling constellation. I ran my fingers along the cool, smooth wood of an old trunk, the scent of forgotten cedar and dried lavender filling my lungs. It was a scent that both soothed and unsettled me, a perfume of lives lived and stories tucked away.
