They identify the source of the disturbances—a mischievous entity known only as the Whisperer. Eleanor must learn to communicate with or outwit this unseen force.
The air in the abandoned art room hummed with a peculiar energy, a static cling that wasn’t just from the dusty canvases. Eleanor tugged the brim of her cap lower, the worn fabric a familiar comfort against the prickling sensation that seemed to emanate from its very fibers. Beside her, the New Student, their eyes wide with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, pointed a trembling finger towards a corner where a single, forgotten paintbrush lay on the floor.
“It was… it was over there,” the New Student whispered, their voice barely disturbing the quiet. “I saw it. Just a second ago, it was on the easel.”
Eleanor nodded, her gaze sweeping across the room. The cap felt warm, almost alive, a subtle thrumming against her scalp. It was a feeling she’d grown accustomed to, a gentle nudge that seemed to guide her attention, to highlight the things others missed. Faint scuff marks, barely visible on the grimy floorboards, led from the easel to the corner where the paintbrush now rested. They weren't the heavy tread of a person, but something lighter, more… ethereal.
