Chapter 8
Elder Root's Riddles
The wise Elder Root, keeper of ancient lore, provides cryptic clues. He speaks of the song's power and its connection to the portal's origins, guiding Riley through riddles that unlock deeper understanding of Lumina's magic.
The air in Lumina hummed with a gentle, constant melody, a symphony of rustling leaves, chirping sprites, and the soft murmur of unseen streams. Riley, with Whisperwind and Glimmerwing fluttering beside him, walked along a path carpeted with moss that glowed with a soft, inner light. They were on their way to meet Elder Root, the oldest being in Lumina, a guardian of its deepest secrets and the keeper of its forgotten lore. Riley felt a flutter of nervousness, a mix of excitement and awe, at the prospect of speaking with someone so ancient, someone who remembered days long before the shimmering portal had even appeared.
They arrived at a clearing where a colossal tree stood, its roots gnarled and thick, weaving like ancient serpents across the forest floor. Its bark was the color of deep earth, etched with patterns that seemed to shift and swirl like clouds. Perched upon a large, moss-covered root was Elder Root himself. He was not a creature of flesh and bone as Riley understood it, but rather a part of the tree, his form emerging from the bark, his eyes like pools of warm amber that held the wisdom of centuries. A gentle breeze rustled his leafy crown, and his voice, when he spoke, was like the deep rumble of the earth itself, slow and resonant.
“Welcome, young seeker,” Elder Root’s voice rumbled, a sound that vibrated through Riley’s very bones. “The threads of fate have woven your path to my roots.”
