Elara blinked, and the world shimmered. Not in the way a heat haze dances over summer fields, or the way water ripples under a breeze. This was a deeper, more resonant shimmer, as if the very fabric of reality had been woven with threads of pure, incandescent light. He sat up in his small bed, the morning sun, usually a warm, dependable presence, now seemed to be winking at him, a playful, celestial eye peeking through his window. The familiar wooden beams of his room seemed to pulse with a soft, internal luminescence, and the motes of dust dancing in the sunbeams were not mere specks, but tiny, swirling galaxies in miniature.

He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his feet finding the cool, smooth floorboards. Usually, the sensation would be grounding, a simple, tactile reminder of the earth beneath him. Today, however, the floorboards felt like the polished surface of a celestial observatory, each grain a cosmic path leading somewhere far, far away. He stood, a little wobbly, and padded towards his wardrobe. Reaching for his tunic, his fingers brushed against the roughspun fabric, and for a moment, he saw not wool, but the swirling nebulae of distant star systems, vast clouds of cosmic dust birthing new suns. He chuckled, a soft, breathy sound. It was always like this, after a night of particularly vivid dreams. His mind, it seemed, refused to switch off its celestial wiring when he woke.

Breakfast was always a challenge. His mother, dear Lyra, had a way of presenting food that was both nourishing and, to Elara’s starlit mind, utterly enchanting. Today, the porridge in his bowl wasn't just oats and water; it was a swirling vortex of creamy, milky way, dotted with the plump raisins that were, undoubtedly, tiny, edible planets. He stirred it with his spoon, and the motion created miniature whirlpools, each one reflecting the faint, internal starlight that seemed to emanate from his very being.
