The air hung thick and still, a heavy blanket over the familiar pines and whispering aspens of my territory. It was a stillness that prickled the fur along my spine, a warning that no wolf’s keen nose could dismiss. Something was amiss. Not a territorial dispute, not the scent of a lost cub, but something… else. A fragrance that wove itself through the night, a discordant note in the symphony of the forest.
