Chapter 7
The Lure of Oblivion
The bloom’s effect deepens. Elara finds herself increasingly drawn to the seductive peace of her dream world, the waking world feeling distant and burdensome. The Weaver encourages this pull.
The world outside Elara’s eyelids had become a hazy rumour, a place of sharp edges and jarring noises that pricked at the edges of her consciousness. Here, in the deep velvet of her sleep, everything was soft. The air hummed with a gentle melody, and colours swirled like spilled ink on silk. The Bloom, with its almost painful luminescence, had done more than just lull her into slumber; it had woven a new reality, one that felt more real, more *right*, than the one she’d left behind.
Each night, the descent was easier, the resistance of her waking mind melting away like frost under a warm sun. The Bloom’s magic was a siren’s song, promising an end to the gnawing exhaustion, the constant, weary ache behind her eyes. It offered oblivion, a sweet, dark pool into which she could finally sink and cease to struggle. And oh, how she craved that surrender. The weight of her sleepless nights had pressed her down for so long, and now, here was a release, a promised peace that felt like a homecoming.
The Weaver of Whispers was her constant companion in this ethereal realm. It – for Elara couldn't quite assign a gender to the shifting, shimmering form – would drift beside her, its voice like the rustling of dry leaves. “Rest, little one,” it would murmur, its words curling around Elara like tendrils of mist. “The waking world is a harsh place. Full of sharp corners and unforgiving light. Here, there is only softness. Only peace.”
