Silas's Confession

Silas reveals his connection to Elara's past and the bloom. He confesses his role in trying to protect her, or perhaps himself, from the truth that lies buried.

The air in Silas’s small cottage hung thick with the scent of dried herbs and old woodsmoke, a comforting aroma that usually soothed Elara’s restless mind. Tonight, however, it did little to quiet the frantic drumming of her heart. Silas sat across from her, his face etched with a weariness that seemed to go deeper than mere physical fatigue. His eyes, usually twinkling with a gentle knowing, were shadowed with a profound sadness. He had called her here, late, after the moon had climbed high and the world outside had surrendered to a hushed slumber. Elara, still wrestling with the lingering tendrils of the Bloom’s potent magic, had come, her curiosity a raw, insistent itch beneath her skin.

“You’ve been asking questions, Elara,” Silas began, his voice a low rumble, like pebbles shifting in a riverbed. He didn’t look at her, his gaze fixed on the worn wooden table between them. “Questions about the Bloom. About your sleeplessness. About… things you don’t remember.”

Elara nodded, her throat tight. She had spoken of the Bloom, of the suffocating darkness that had plagued her for years, of the fractured images that flickered at the edges of her dreams. She had spoken of the Weaver, its insidious whispers, and the growing sense of dread that clung to her like damp cloth. Silas had listened, his silence a heavy blanket, until now.
