The air in the dreamscape was thick and heavy, like the velvet curtains of a forgotten theatre. Elara stood on a path cobbled with shimmering, obsidian shards that crunched softly underfoot. The usual kaleidoscope of colours that painted her dreams was muted, reduced to shades of bruised purple and the sickly green of phosphorescence. She clutched a fragment of memory – the glint of metal, a sharp cry, the suffocating smell of damp earth – a tiny, flickering ember against the encroaching dark. This was it. The shadow. The guardian of what she had lost.

A low hum vibrated through the ground, a sound that resonated in her bones, pulling at something deep within her. It wasn't a sound of music, but of a vast, unseen engine turning, a relentless churn of forgotten moments. Then, from the swirling mists at the edge of her vision, it coalesced. It was not a creature of flesh and blood, but a formless dread, a shifting mass of inky blackness that seemed to absorb all light. It pulsed with a malevolent energy, and Elara felt an instinctive terror bloom in her chest, a cold, sharp flower of fear.

"You have come far, little one," a voice rasped, not from any discernible mouth, but from the very air around the shadow. It was a voice like dry leaves skittering across stone, ancient and devoid of warmth. The Weaver of Whispers.
