Eleanor begins to understand the cost of binding the Devourer as she experiences its hunger firsthand. With Rossi's help, she uncovers a hidden journal belonging to Alistair Blackhood that reveals a possible way to destroy the entity permanently, but the ritual requires a sacrifice she is not prepared to make. In a final confrontation with Amelia, Eleanor chooses a different path, using the entity's own nature against it to seal it away in the sanctum walls, freeing herself but forever changing the house.
The cottage felt smaller now, the walls pressing in like the weight Eleanor carried inside her. She sat at the wooden table, her hands wrapped around a cup of tea she had not touched. The liquid had gone cold, a thin skin forming on its surface. Across from her, Rossi paced, her footsteps a steady rhythm against the floorboards. Amelia stood by the window, her back to them, watching the last light drain from the sky.
Eleanor could feel it moving inside her, a slow, deliberate stirring, like a creature waking from a long sleep. It was not painful, not yet, but it was there, a presence that was not her own, a hunger that whispered at the edges of her thoughts.
"How long?" Eleanor asked, her voice flat.
