Chapter 13
The Guardian's Trial
The next stage involves a trial set by ancient guardians. Ethan and Eleanor must prove their worthiness by solving a complex riddle that tests their intellect and courage.
The air in the chamber hung thick and still, a palpable weight pressing down on Ethan and Eleanor. They stood at the precipice of a colossal stone archway, its weathered surface etched with symbols that seemed to writhe in the flickering torchlight. Beyond it lay not darkness, but a soft, ethereal glow, beckoning them into the heart of the guardian’s trial. He recognized some of the motifs from the explorer’s notes – celestial patterns, mythical beasts, and symbols of balance. “And how exactly do ancient guardians judge a couple of tomb raiders?” he quipped, though the tremor in his voice betrayed his own unease. His past failures, the gnawing doubt that had plagued him since his disgrace, felt amplified in this ancient, sacred place. Was he truly worthy of this quest, or just another fool chasing shadows?
