Chapter 6
Echoes in the Forest
The trio navigates treacherous woods, guided by Eldrin's knowledge and Pip's instincts. The Shadow's pursuit intensifies, forcing Elara to confront her fear and rely on her companions.
The ancient woods pressed in, a verdant, breathing wall of oak and pine. Sunlight, fractured into a thousand shimmering shards, dappled the forest floor, illuminating patches of moss that glowed with an almost unnatural luminescence. Elara clutched the smooth, cool surface of the Sunstone tighter, its faint warmth a comforting anchor against the gnawing unease that had settled in her stomach since they’d left the familiar, dusty roads behind. Beside her, Pip moved with a silent grace that Elara envied, their small frame a blur of motion as they scouted ahead, their keen eyes scanning the tangled undergrowth. Eldrin paused, his hand going to the ancient charm that hung from his neck. It pulsed with a faint, almost imperceptible light, a silent affirmation. “The stars, the moss on the north side of the trees, the very whisper of the wind… they all speak of the path ahead, Elara. This forest remembers the old ways, and it guides us.” He offered her a gentle smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Trust its wisdom, as I do.”
