The mahogany door of the penthouse suite clicked shut behind Amelia, the sound echoing with a finality that settled uncomfortably in her chest. She smoothed the skirt of her simple dress, the fabric suddenly feeling flimsy against the opulent surroundings. Ethan had left with a promise to return, a promise that felt as hollow as the vast, empty space of the suite.
