Chapter 7
A Cozy Hiding Spot
The yarn leads to a slightly ajar closet door. Peeking inside, Mary and Luna find Snowy and Starry curled up together, nestled amongst soft blankets, fast asleep after their yarn adventure.
The red yarn, usually so bouncy and full of life, had gone completely still. It lay in a soft, tangled heap, a fuzzy, crimson question mark on the polished wooden floor. Mary followed the trail, her heart thumping a little faster with every step. Luna was right beside her, her blue eyes wide with a mixture of curiosity and worry. Where had Snowy and Starry run off to? The yarn had seemed to lead them this way, past the big comfy armchair, around the sturdy oak table, and then… nothing. Just the quiet hum of the afternoon.
Mary pointed a finger towards a narrow gap between the wall and a tall, dark wooden door. "Look, Luna! The yarn went behind there!"
Luna peered closer. "It’s a closet door," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "It’s not quite closed."
