Dreaming of Furry Friends

The click of the front door closing echoed softly in the quiet house, a gentle punctuation mark at the end of a most wonderful day. Luna was gone, back home with her mom, and Snowy and Starry had gone with her, their little white tails disappearing around the corner as they were carried to the car. I stood in the hallway for a moment, a happy sigh escaping my lips. My room was a bit of a mess, scattered with stray yarn strands and a few feathers that had escaped from our game, but it didn’t bother me at all. In fact, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I started tidying up, picking up a bright red ball of yarn that had unraveled during Starry’s enthusiastic chase and carefully placing it back in the basket. Beside it lay a fluffy white feather, a casualty of Snowy’s surprisingly agile pounce. I remembered how Luna had giggled when Snowy had leaped and snagged it right out of the air, his little white body a blur of motion. And Starry! Oh, Starry had been a whirlwind of kitten energy, batting at anything that moved, her tiny paws a blur as she tried to catch her own tail.

As I straightened a cushion on the sofa, I pictured Snowy, his intelligent blue eyes watching me from his perch on top of the bookshelf. He’d been so curious, exploring every nook and cranny of my house, his sensitive nose twitching as he investigated new smells. And then there was Starry, who had followed me everywhere, her soft purrs a constant, comforting rumble against my legs. I remembered the moment we’d discovered her secret talent, how she’d nudged that little bell with her nose, making it ring with such a delicate, musical sound. It had been like a tiny fairy bell, magical and sweet. And Snowy, with his uncanny ability to find the comfiest, most hidden spots, always emerging with a contented blink.
