Snowy's Hidden Skill
Luna points to Snowy, who is batting lightly at a dangling string. 'Look,' she whispers, 'Snowy loves to play with delicate things. He's so gentle!' Mary sees his careful, graceful movements.
My heart thumped a happy rhythm against my ribs. The doorbell! It could only be Luna. I smoothed down my dress, a bright yellow one with tiny blue flowers, and bounced on the balls of my feet. Mom peeked from the kitchen, a warm smile on her face. "Go on, dear," she encouraged. I practically flew to the door, my black eyes shining with anticipation. What if Luna brought her new kitten, Starry, too? And what about Snowy, her big, fluffy white cat? I’d only ever seen pictures.
I pulled the door open wide, and there she was! Luna Cutie, her long brown hair tied back with a pink ribbon, stood on my porch, a big smile on her face. And beside her, peeking out from behind her legs, were two fluffy white shapes. One was a big, majestic cat, looking around with wide, curious blue eyes. The other was a tiny ball of fluff, batting playfully at a fallen leaf.
"Luna!" I squealed, throwing my arms around her.
