My toes wiggled under the covers, a sure sign that a happy day was about to begin. Today was a *very* special day. Today, Luna was coming to visit! Luna was my best friend, and she was bringing her pets with her. I’d only seen pictures of them, fluffy white bundles of fur named Snowy and Starry. Snowy was Luna’s big, elegant cat, and Starry was her tiny, bouncy kitten. I’d never had a pet of my own, and I imagined what it would be like to have a soft cat purring on my lap or a playful kitten chasing a feather. My heart did a little flip-flop of excitement just thinking about it.

I practically flew down the stairs, my short black hair bouncing around my face. My black eyes scanned the living room, then the kitchen, then back again. Mom was setting out a plate of my favorite cookies, the ones with the rainbow sprinkles, and a pitcher of lemonade. "Ready for your friend, Mary?" she asked, a warm smile on her face.

"So ready!" I chirped, bouncing on the balls of my feet. "Will they be here soon?"

"Any minute now, I expect," Mom said, wiping her hands on her apron. "Why don't you go set up the special corner for Snowy and Starry? Luna mentioned they like a comfy spot to relax."

A special corner! Of course! I hurried to the sunniest spot in the living room, right by the big window. I pulled over a soft, fluffy rug and arranged a couple of plump cushions. I even found a little toy mouse that had been left behind by a visiting cousin ages ago, and placed it gently on the rug. It wasn't quite a real toy mouse, but it would have to do. I imagined Snowy and Starry batting it around, their little paws making soft thuds on the rug.

Just as I finished, the doorbell rang. My heart did a little leap. "They're here!" I shouted, and ran towards the front door, Mom close behind.

Standing on the porch, her long brown hair tied back with a bright ribbon, was Luna. Her blue eyes sparkled as she saw me. "Mary!" she cried, and then she was hugging me tight. It felt like we hadn't seen each other in ages, even though it had only been a week.

"Luna!" I hugged her back just as hard. "I'm so happy you're here!"

"Me too!" Luna pulled away, her smile wide. "And guess who else is excited?" She gestured to a beautiful wicker basket at her feet. From the top of the basket, two pairs of bright, curious eyes peeked out.

"Snowy! Starry!" I gasped. They were even more beautiful than in the pictures. Snowy was a cloud of white fur, with a long, graceful tail that twitched with interest. Beside her, Starry was a tiny ball of fluff, her ears perked up and her little nose wiggling.

"They've been looking out the car window the whole way," Luna giggled. "They couldn't wait to explore."

"Come on in!" I pulled the door open wider. "Welcome to my house!"

Luna picked up the basket. "Be good, you two," she whispered to her pets. We walked into the living room, and I pointed to the sunny corner. "I made a special spot for you!"

As soon as Luna set the basket down, Snowy hopped out with a quiet grace. She stretched languidly, her white fur shimmering in the sunlight. She sniffed the rug, then the cushions, and finally gave a little purr. Starry, on the other hand, tumbled out in a flurry of white fluff, landing with a soft thump and immediately looking around with wide, wondering eyes.

"Wow," I breathed, watching them. Snowy began to explore the room with a quiet confidence, her tail held high. She weaved between the furniture, her gaze taking in every detail. Starry, however, was a whirlwind of motion. She spotted a dust bunny skittering across the floor and pounced! It disappeared under the sofa, and Starry, undeterred, began batting at the fringe of the rug with all her might.

Luna watched them, a faint smile on her face, but I noticed a little flicker of something else in her eyes, like a tiny worry. "Starry, be careful!" she called softly.

Snowy, meanwhile, had discovered the stairs. With a silent leap, she was halfway up. "Oh!" I exclaimed. "She's a good climber."

"She likes to get to high places," Luna said, a little sheepishly. "Sometimes it's hard to get her down."

This was our chance to play! "Let's make them a kitty obstacle course!" I suggested, my imagination already buzzing. We could use the cushions, maybe a tunnel made from blankets…

But before we could even gather the blankets, Snowy had disappeared. One moment she was on the stairs, the next she was gone. "Snowy?" I called out.

"Snowy!" Luna echoed, her voice a little tighter now.

A soft *thump* came from somewhere upstairs. Then, a faint meow.

"She's upstairs!" I said.

"Oh dear," Luna sighed. "She must have found a way into one of the bedrooms."

We hurried up the stairs, our footsteps soft on the carpet. The meowing was coming from my parents' bedroom. We peeked inside. The room was quiet, the bed neatly made. Where could Snowy be?

Then I heard it again, a very faint rustle from inside the tall wardrobe. "In there!" I whispered, pointing.

Luna gently opened the wardrobe doors. And there, perched regally on a shelf filled with sweaters, sat Snowy. She looked completely unconcerned, blinking slowly at us.

"Snowy! How did you even get up there?" Luna asked, half exasperated, half amused.

"She's a master climber, I guess," I said, still amazed.

Getting Snowy down was a bit of a challenge. She didn't want to budge. Luna had to coax her with a few of her special cat treats, and I had to stand on a stool to reach her. Finally, with a graceful leap, Snowy landed softly on the floor.

But our adventure wasn't over. As we were leading Snowy back downstairs, a frantic scrabbling sound came from the hallway. Starry! She had somehow gotten herself tangled in the trailing cord of the vacuum cleaner that was standing in the corner. Her little white paws were flailing, and she was letting out tiny, distressed mews.

"Starry!" Luna yelped, rushing towards her.

I quickly untangled the cord, my fingers working carefully so as not to hurt the tiny kitten. Starry, once free, immediately darted under the sofa, trembling.

"Oh, poor Starry," Luna murmured, getting down on her hands and knees. She reached under the sofa, her voice soft and soothing. "It's okay, sweetie. You're safe now."

Slowly, Starry crawled out, still a little shaky. She nudged her head into Luna's hand, purring a tiny, reedy purr. Then, she spotted her favorite toy mouse, the one I had placed in the special corner. She pounced on it with a renewed burst of energy, batting it around with her paws.

"Look!" I said, pointing. "She loves her mouse!"

Luna smiled, her earlier worry fading. "She always carries that mouse around. It's her favorite thing."

Snowy, now back on the rug, watched Starry’s antics with a calm gaze. Then, she did something unexpected. She nudged Starry gently with her nose, as if to say, "My turn!" Starry, surprisingly, let Snowy bat the mouse around for a moment before nudging it back to her.

"They're playing together!" I exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across my face. It was like they had their own special game.

We spent the rest of the afternoon watching Snowy and Starry. We discovered that Snowy loved to perch on the windowsill and watch the birds, her tail twitching with fascination. And Starry, after her initial burst of energy, was happiest when she was curled up on Luna's lap, purring like a tiny motor. We even found out that Snowy was a surprisingly good hunter of the rogue dust bunnies that dared to appear. And Starry? She had a hidden talent for balancing on Luna's outstretched hand, wobbling like a tiny tightrope walker before happily tumbling into Luna's palm for a cuddle.

We played with them, gently petting their soft fur, watching their playful chases and quiet naps. It was even more fun than I had imagined. Luna and I giggled as Starry chased a sunbeam across the floor, and we marveled at Snowy's quiet dignity as she surveyed her surroundings.

As the afternoon sun began to dip lower in the sky, painting the room in warm, golden hues, Luna yawned. "It's been such a wonderful day, Mary," she said, stroking Snowy’s head.

"The best!" I agreed, feeling a pang of sadness that she had to leave soon. "I love Snowy and Starry."

"They love you too," Luna said, her blue eyes shining. "We should do this again soon. Maybe next time, we can have a picnic in the park with them!"

"Yes!" I clapped my hands. "And we can bring their favorite toys!"

As Luna packed Snowy and Starry back into their basket, I knew this was just the beginning of many wonderful adventures. The Believe Tour of Mary & Luna, I thought, and it already felt like the most magical tour in the world.
