Their search leads them to the peculiar Whispering Woods. They encounter a grumpy gnome who offers a cryptic riddle, demanding a ridiculous act of kindness before he'll share any clues about Sheng's whereabouts.
The Whispering Woods lived up to its name. It wasn’t the rustling of leaves that gave it its reputation, oh no. It was the trees themselves, ancient and gnarled, that seemed to murmur secrets to anyone who dared to listen. Lin and Feng, their faces streaked with dust and a healthy dose of indignation, pushed through a curtain of weeping willows that dripped with an unnervingly melancholic dew. Their quest to find Sheng had led them here, a place whispered about in hushed tones by even the bravest of pixies.
“This place gives me the shivers,” Feng muttered, adjusting the slightly askew flower crown that had somehow survived their journey. Her keen eyes darted around, taking in the shadowed glades and the unnerving quiet that pressed in on them. It was a silence that felt too heavy, too observant.
Lin, ever the more boisterous of the two, snorted, a puff of steam escaping her lips in the cool, damp air. “Shivers? It’s just trees, Feng. Big, grumpy, whispering trees. Probably complaining about the lack of decent sunlight. Honestly, if Sheng’s anywhere, she’s probably having a grand time, completely oblivious to our suffering.” Her voice, though laced with exasperation, held a tremor of worry that she tried her best to mask with bluster. The thought of Sheng, alone and possibly in trouble, gnawed at her.
