Chapter 22
Chapter Twenty-Two — The Archive of Ordinary Things
After dinner, Ryan shows Jenny a cardboard box labeled 'Archive of Ordinary Things' containing mementos from his own first ride-up. She finds a letter he wrote to his younger self, a collection of fabric samples from his old shirts, and a photo of him smiling with a bare midriff at a family barbecue. The discovery deepens their bond and helps Jenny see her journey as part of a larger family story.
The lasagna was gone, reduced to a few crusty edges in the baking dish that Seth had scraped clean with theatrical enthusiasm. Jenny leaned back in her chair, pleasantly full, one hand resting absently on her stomach. Her polo had settled into its final position hours ago—hem tucked just beneath her chest, a band of warm skin exposed from ribs to waistband. She'd stopped noticing it, except in brief flickers when she caught her reflection in the dark window glass or when the evening breeze from the kitchen window brushed across her middle.
It felt normal now. Or at least, normal enough.
