Chapter 6
A Covenant of Hope
The waters recede, and the ark rests. Noah releases birds, a sign of hope. God establishes a covenant, a rainbow promising never again to destroy all life with a flood, a symbol of His enduring grace.
The days on the ark had blurred into a rhythm of survival, a constant hum of creaking wood, animal calls, and the quiet breathing of a family held together by faith and necessity. Months had passed since the door had sealed them in, a heavy, final sound that echoed the world’s end. Now, a stillness had settled, different from the suffocating quiet of the storm, a stillness that spoke of change. Noah, his heart a well of both weariness and a burgeoning hope, felt it first. He stood at the edge of the great vessel, the scent of damp wood and animal musk familiar, yet now tinged with something new – the clean, sharp breath of air that had been absent for so long.
He signaled to Naamah, his eyes crinkling at the corners with a gentle smile. She joined him, her hand finding his, a silent testament to their shared journey. “The rain has stopped, Naamah,” he said, his voice raspy from disuse and the lingering dust of the ark. “And the rocking… it’s gentler now. I think… I think the waters are going down.”
