The heavens open, and torrential rains descend. Noah, his family, and the animals are safely inside the ark. The mighty doors close, sealing them from the world as the waters rise.
The sky, which had been a bruised canvas of purples and grays for days, finally surrendered. It began not with a rumble, but with a sigh, a deep exhalation that seemed to shudder through the very bones of the earth. Then, the rain. It wasn't the gentle patter of a summer shower, nor the determined drumming of a spring storm. This was a deluge, a furious outpouring from the heavens, as if the vast reservoirs above had been tapped and unleashed with a singular, overwhelming force.
Inside the ark, the air was thick with the scent of wood, animal musk, and the quiet hum of anticipation. Noah stood near one of the high, narrow windows, his weathered hands resting on the rough-hewn timber. His gaze was fixed on the swirling chaos outside, the world he had known dissolving into a watery blur. The sounds were immense: the relentless roar of the rain, the distant cries of creatures caught unaware, and the groaning of the massive vessel as it began to pitch and sway.
Naamah, her face etched with a mixture of concern and resolute calm, moved through the enclosed spaces, her voice a steady balm amidst the rising din. She checked on a pair of startled goats, murmuring soft reassurances, then moved to comfort a nervous mother hen whose chicks huddled close. Her own heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm that belied her outward composure. She had seen the fear in her sons’ eyes, the unspoken questions that flickered in their depths, and she understood the weight of their father’s burden.
